Spicy BBQ sauce(barbecue sauce).

Spicy BBQ sauce is a thick, sweet, tangy sauce with a slight tang. This homemade BBQ sauce is better than any store-bought version. it only takes 15 minutes.

All the ingredients used to make this barbecue sauce can be found in your kitchen, and 15 minutes of cooking time is all you need to make it.

The mustard powder in the sauce gives it another level of flavour you won’t be able to resist.

  • Use this barbecue sauce, to dip your potato wedges, fries or homemade onion fritters.
  • Toss them with a few batter-fried chicken wings to give you a platter of barbecue wings.
  • Use the barbecue sauce as a quick marinade and grill your chicken and beef.
  • Drizzle the spicy BBQ sauce over hotdogs, quesadillas, and burgers or mix with your favourite pulled meat.

  • A heavy-bottomed pan to make the sauce.
  • If you are making your own mustard powder, then a small spice grinder.

Store in an air-tight container and refrigerate.

The ingredients mentioned below use standard measuring cups and spoons.

2 cups of tomato sauce(also known as ketchup)
1 tablespoon of white vinegar
1 teaspoon of black pepper powder
2 tablespoons of red chilli powder(reduce to bring down the heat)
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon of garlic powder(substitute with minced garlic, once the sauce is made strain to remove the garlic pieces).
1/4 cup of brown sugar
tablespoons of honey
Salt to season
2 tablespoons of oil(light sunflower oil, white coconut oil. use an oil that is light and doesn’t carry a heavy odor, eg: avoid using certain coconut oil with a yellow tinge).
1/4 teaspoon of mustard powder(make your own by grinding 1 teaspoon of mustard seed)

Method

To a heavy-bottomed pan add the tomato sauce, vinegar, red chilli powder, can reduce to bring down the spiciness of the BBQ sauce),
pepper powder, and Worcestershire sauce.

Garlic powder(substitute with minced garlic, once the sauce is made strain to remove the garlic pieces), brown sugar, and honey.

Oil(light sunflower oil, white coconut oil. use an oil that is light and doesn’t carry a heavy odour. eg: certain coconut oil with a yellow tinge), and salt to season.

Once all the ingredients to the spicy barbecue sauce are added into the pan, cook over low-medium heat for 7-10 minutes or until sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens.

Stir frequently.

Add the mustard powder(1/4 tsp) and stir, season with salt.

Taste often and make the necessary adjustments as you need.

oil(2 tbsp, light sunflower oil, white coconut oil, use an oil that is light and doesn’t carry a heavy odor, eg: certain coconut oil with a yellow tinge), and salt to season.

Once all the ingredients to the spicy barbecue sauce are added into the pan, cook over low-medium heat for 7-10 minutes or until sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens.
