Homemade sloppy Joes made with minced beef, cooked in a curry powder, coconut milk sauce which gives these sloppy joes their curry-spiced flavors.
The ground beef has all the tastes of spices that give your regular favorite curries their distinct taste.
I’m taking the classic American comfort and giving it my own spin to it. call it a Sri Lankan style sloppy Joe if you will.
What are sloppy Joes?
Sloppy Joes are basically chunky sandwiches with a meaty sauce.
You can use any type of buns to make these minced beef filled burger buns.

I love making these easy homemade sloppy joes for a few reasons.

How to make
spicy curry-flavored
sloppy Joes.
Please make sure to read the recipe instructions carefully to avoid mistakes.
Ingredients.
Ingredients mentioned below use standard measuring cups and spoons.
1 tablespoon of red chilie flakes
1 tablespoon of black pepper
2 tablespoons of curry powder
3 tablespoons of oil
Salt to season(start with 1 teaspoon)
A sprig of curry leaves(optional)
1 tablespoon of minced ginger-garlic paste
1 large onion sliced fine
2 medium-sized tomatoes chopped
700g of ground beef
1/2 cup of thick coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
2 tablespoons of tomato sauce(also known as ketchup, substitute with 2 tablespoons of tomato paste+1 tablespoon of sugar)
6-7 burger buns
1/4 cup butter
Method
Have all the ingredients ready.
If your ground beef is frozen leave it out to reach room temperature.
Then place the minced beef in a bowl. Add red chilli flakes(1 tbs), black pepper(1 tbs), curry powder(2 tbs), season with salt, combine and let it marinate for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile,place a medium-sized pan over low heat and pour in the oil(3 tbs), add curry leaves(4-5, optional), minced ginger-garlic paste(1 tbs), chopped tomatoes( 2 medium-sized), onions(large).
Cook for 3-5 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and broken down.
Transfer the marinated minced beef to the pan and combine with the ingredients.
Cook the beef with the tempering ingredients until all moisture evaporates, at this point you can add turmeric(1/2 tsp), a little more red chillie powder to make the meaty curry spicier.
Cook for 7-12 minutes over low-medium heat.
Once the minced beef is cooked dry, pour in the coconut milk(1/2 a cup).
Reduce heat to low and cook for 2 minutes. add tomato sauce(2 tablespoons, substitute with 2 tablespoons of tomato paste+1 tablespoon of sugar). continue to cook over low fire.
Taste and season with salt if necessary, a small amount of sugar(1 tsp) can be added to enhance taste, cook until you have a thick, sloppy joe meaty sauce.
Slice the burger buns in half, brush a little butter over them, heat the grilling/frying pan over low heat.
Place the sliced bun and slightly(10-15 seconds)grill the buns.
Serving Sloppy Joes
for a crowd.
Place the grilled buns over a large tray, spoon the meaty beef sauce, remove any curry leaves as you spoon the beef sauce.
Serve warm with some fried potato chips.
