Beginner’s tips on making chocolate dipped strawberries.
- Strawberries-
- chooses fresh strawberries that are not bruised.
- Use the strawberries the same day you bought them to make these chocolate dipped strawberries.
- Frozen strawberries do not work as they have way too much moisture once they thaw.
- You need to remove the strawberries from the fridge and wash them at least one hour before dipping them in chocolate.
- The reason is you want to have completely dried strawberries which means wiping them gently to remove dampness and letting them air dry a little.
- Chocolate–
- you can use chocolate melts, chocolate chips as well as cooking chocolate bars to make these chocolate-covered strawberries.
- You can use milk chocolate but dark chocolate gives a more intense flavor and pairs well with the sweetness and the tinge of sourness in the fruits.
- You can melt and temper the chocolate over a stovetop but I’ve used the microwave, way easier and convenient to melt this way.
- Once the chocolate is melted and ready for dipping, drops of water should not come in contact with the melted chocolate.
- Avoid dipping the strawberries when the melted chocolate is really hot. let the chocolate cool for 5-7 minutes at which point the melted chocolate will be mildly warm.
- if you are living in a hot humid country then keep the chocolate strawberries refrigerated, otherwise, they tend to sweat.
- Consume within a few hours of making them(10-12 hours).
Storing- once they are done, store them in a box where they can be laid in a row, not stacked over each other.

How to melt the chocolate to cover in strawberries
Microwave method–
Remove 3 tablespoons of the total chocolate chips and place the rest in a microwave-safe bowl.
Heat the chocolate chips in 20-second bursts(this would mean 3-4 times).
Remove after every 20 seconds and stir with a spoon to melt the chocolate chips.
Add the 3 tablespoons of chocolate chip you separated into the bowl.
Microwave for 10 seconds, stir well to smooth consistency, and let it cool slightly to dip the strawberries.
Stovetop method–
- repeat the process of separating the chocolate.
- Place a saucepan over a stovetop and fill it with 1/2 a cup of water, over medium heat bring the water to a gentle boil, and then reduce heat to low.
- Place a large bowl that will sit over the saucepan without touching the boiling water and add the chocolate chips into the bowl.
- Stir and let the chocolate melt.
- A minute before you remove the melted chocolate from the pan, add in the 3 tablespoons of chocolate chip, stir until melted, and remove from stove.
- Let it cool and thicken before dipping the strawberries.
How to cover the strawberries in chocolate.
Once your chocolate dip is ready. wipe your hand if they are wet and hold the strawberry by the stem and dip it into the chocolate.
Move or gently swirl the strawberry in the chocolate dip.
Raise chocolate-covered strawberry from a few inches from the bowl to remove excess chocolate, tilt it to so the rest of the chocolate coats the strawberry.
And gently place the chocolate dipped strawberry on the parchment paper.
Repeat and place each strawberry a few inches apart from each other.
Once you are done, refrigerate for 20-30 minutes for the chocolate to harden.
If you’ve done the whole process correctly, the strawberries will separate from the parchment paper easily.
