- Once the chocolate crinkle cookie dough is made, it will be sticky, for this purpose you will need to chill the cookie dough for 3-5 hours.
- Baking time can vary by minutes depending on altitude and the type of oven you use.
- Testing for correct for accurate baking time for your oven.
If I’m not sure of the exact baking time and wanted to avoid a batch of cookies, I usually bake a single cookie to verify and adjust the baking time.
This allows me to adjust the baking time if it turns out too soft or too dry. - Once the baking time is over, check on the crinkle cookies. Even if they look a little soft, take them out and place them on a cooling rack, as the remaining heat will continue to harden the cookies.

How to make chocolate crinkle cookies(cocoa cookies)
Please make sure to read the recipe instructions carefully to avoid mistakes.
Ingredients
Ingredients mentioned below use standard measuring cups and spoons.
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 a cup cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup oil(substitute with melted butter)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon of Vanilla
1 cup powdered or icing sugar sifted
Method
Gather ingredients to make chocolate crinkle cookies.
Sift icing sugar(1 cup) on to a plate or bowl and set aside.
To a large bowl sift flour(1 cup), baking powder(1 tsp), salt(1/4 tsp), cocoa powder(1/2 a cup) seperately.
How to make the chocolate crinkle dough.
Whisk oil(1/4 cup) and sugar(3/4 cup) as much as you can. Dissolve the sugar as you whisk(3-5 minutes).
Add the eggs(2 eggs) and vanilla(1 tsp) into the oil and sugar mixture. Gently whisk the eggs and continue to dissolve the sugar(2 min).
Gradually add the flour and cocoa dry mixture into the wet ingredients.
Use a spatula to fold the flour into the egg mixture until you have a soft somewhat wet dough.
The dough will be sticky.
Make a dough ball, cover with cling film and chill overnight for 2-3 hours.
This will make the dough firmer and allow you to make dough balls easily, especially if you are living in a humid country.
Once the crinkle dough is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator and form the chocolate dough balls. To maintain uniformity of the dough balls, use your measuring spoons(1 tbs to 1 and 1/2 tablespoon).
Roll each of the dough into balls and then immediately roll them on icing sugar and place on parchment paper.
Continue to roll and coat with icing sugar until you are done with the dough.
Place the sugar-coated cookies on a baking tray covered in baking paper, 2″ apart as they spread while baking.
If you live somewhere humid or it’s a hot day, you might find the powdered sugar melting into the cookies.
You can somewhat manage this by, dunking them in the powdered sugar bowl, rolling them heavily on it before placing them in the oven to bake.
Preheat oven to 160C and bake for 10-13 minutes(refer beginner’s notes for tips).
Transfer to a cooling tray once the cookies are baked.
